Changes keep on changing.

Posted on April 25 2023

They keep changing the rules. After record breaking heat on Thursday and Friday in which every Hendrickson, pseudo, Apple caddis and Grannom hatched (at least where I was), and you could wade anywhere you wanted, and the fish fed like hogs at the trough, it all changed. Lets just say that with the car being blown all over the road by winds of 25mph and up on the way home Saturday morning, I felt not a moment of regret for not being on the river. Sunday was worse yet, wind, high water, cold temps and rain.

Today I was at the dentist office for my 8:20 cleaning appointment, got a gold star for my at home dental care and a free toothbrush.. At 9:00 I was at Tractor Supply trying to buy black oil sunflower seeds for our birdfeeders. Did you know that Ukraine supplies 40% of the worlds supply of black oil sunflower seeds? Tractor Supply was all out and didn't know when, of if, they would have any in. Drove across the street to Walmart and fortunately (for the birds and not the squirrels) they did. I bought two bags one for home and one for the Lordville Estate.

The weeks weather forecast is for temps at or slightly below normal. The streams are all quite high but dropping  rapidly with no major rain predicted. So (this is a test), help me out here, where and when did you, or would you have, fished if you were on the river system today?

Is anyone willing to actually lay it on the line and answer the question?, or even hazard a guess?  At noon tomorrow I'll tell you where I went, why, and what, if anything, I caught.

I floated lower west and top of the main on Sunday. At 3pm like someone dropped a gate Hendricksons starting hatching on the main like gangbusters. Interestingly the fish waited 2 hours to respond and managed 2 large fat browns in a place I wouldn’t normally expect to see fish of that size (hint hint).

I would expect the WB to start to fish well in the next week or so. If they keep the high release there will be Hendrickons for the month of May.

Hey Angler 119, I’ve been driving around and fishing the warmest water times of the day (I think you would approve?)

With the water coming down there are more places to wade though even when it was high the last 2 days I saw plenty of bugs and rising fish.

3-6p, quick look at the WB and EB- then go to the big river.

I am going on the BR. It’s warmer and that means more bugs. I know some places where I can get in to some tail outs.
    Hope it works out

I know exactly where i would go but not going to post it online. The fun of this game is figuring it out on your own. More rewarding.

P.S This may sound sacrilegious but I would also go to a local lake and try for some perch or largemouth bass. It’s all great fun

    I’d fish Deposit or Stilesville.

Oh boy! I don’t know the Delaware well enough to wade it in very high water.I guess I would have looked for spots to get in on the Willow . Why-I know the water, hoping for bugs and some spinners. Or my other option would be to stay home , go to my annual cardiologist check up. Which is what I did. Wednesday-the eye doctor . How exciting
