With the drift boaters concentrating on the middle and lower sections of the WB and the BR down to Buckingham, and the water temps in all of the freestone sections right around 60 degrees, it's a great opportunity for wade fishermen to get away from the crowd, enjoy fishing to fish that haven't been rowed over 15 times a day and perhaps hooking into a hot rainbow that hasn't felt a hook since Hendricksons.
The rain this week is a God send. Hopefully the weather pattern has changed, although the low that has been spinning over us seems a lot like the one that was up in Maine last week that sent us the smoke signals. Not sure if the fires in Canada have been extinguished as the radar seems to show the rain concentrated around NYS.
The fishing - Scrubbed the morning fishing. The rain is not conducive to good spinner falls and the cornutas appear to be over on the freestones. Left the Lordville Estate about 2:30 and took it on the chin in the BR as the olives (notoriously late risers) had not yet made an appearance. Drove over to a pool on the EB and found both olives and risers. Action was fast and furious for an hour then sun came out, the olives stopped hatching and the fish quit rising. Headed over to the BK where it was raining, there were olives hatching and fish rising. About 8:15 things quieted down and I headed for the fishing camp with time for perhaps a look at junction pool on the way. Not a single car in the lot. I fished for half an hour and hooked three fish, one broke me off, one came unstuck and I landed a nice brown.
If you are planning to be here in the next few days, bring your raincoat and your olives, avoid the armada and and see if you can't hook into a rainbow.
Not all boats are b’s. I get the boat angst but some of us have boating, unguided, longer than many have even known this river system exists. We are kind, and respectful. So please return the favor.
Heading up to fish next 3 days. Hopefully run into you. I’ll know it’s you cuz it’ll be the only guy with a fish on!
Good twist on the Carpenters, Angler 119. Look forward to enjoying some rain and rainbows (and hopefully no drift boats) this weekend.
I took your advice and went to the BK. I had the place to myself and fish we’re eating. I didn’t catch a fish but again had a bunch of refusals!!! They refused BWO and ISO’s. I fished from 3-8pm. This refusal binge has got to end.
Thanks for the Info
