Was on the road this morning in the pitch dark at 5:00AM heading for Ithaca where we were to arrive by 6:15 for Jean's second cataract removal. Jean was scheduled to be the second operation, (she was eighth last week), but there was a mix-up between the front desk guy, who said she wasn't supposed to be there until 7:00, ("You're way too early"), and processed several patients scheduled after Jean, and the OR nurse who had called the house and said to be there by 6:15. The OR nurse finally came out looking for Jean and she was processed and slipped into the order batting 5th. The whole snafu didn't amount to a delay of more than an hour and we were back on the road home by 8:30.
Jean, apparently tired of what she considers my pokey driving, got approval from the Doctor to drive herself down tomorrow for the post op appointment. On the way back home she said, "It's still early, I'm going to drive myself down tomorrow, and you can be in Lordville in time for the afternoon olive hatch". As frosting on the cake, she wrapped up half of the leftover flank steak from last night's dinner and tossed in a tub of pasta salad, (alas there weren't any cookies, but still, I didn't have to buy a pizza.
The Fishing - If my secretary hadn't run off to Florida, I could have just called her a month ago and said Diane, type this report and make eight or ten carbon copies. Does anyone remember carbon copies? where a sheet of carbon paper had to be inserted between each sheet of paper and each typo had to be erased on every copy? Some things are better now, (but if you have an HP printer, BEWARE, they no longer function on refilled ink cartridges, and each pair of refills of "genuine HP ink" costs more than the printer did.
So what's going on? Well the WB, (per the DRC, "Has a greenish tinge.") Others might say it's muddy. The BK and Willow are very, very low and clear. The EB and the BR are fishing well and have both bugs and rising fish, as does the lower WB, and probably the UEB.
For the last two months I have consistently failed to catch 10 fish a day, BUT, only a fraction of the blame is related to my advancing years. There is considerable blame to be found with the young rainbows that are now be between 11 and 12 inches long, and should make up half of a days catch. Either they've skipped town or have allowed themselves to be eaten by bigger fish. The bug hatches start around 1:00 and go until about 6:00. Hatches on some rivers start at one, others don't get going until 3:30. The six to eight fish I've been catching most days are mostly adult rainbows between three and four years old, (15 to 19 inches). The fishing isn't for beginners but for experienced anglers, it's quality fishing at it's best.
Be careful A119….if we lose our cookie connection the next associate editors meeting could be a rough one.
Although… if Jean will send steak for everybody I’ll bring a bottle of wine. Thanks for the report!
A119 No disrespect taken!! I would prefer steak over pizza also and it didn’t cost you!!!! The first afternoon in the tree stand was quiet 6 doe.
I am going to try and fish today and will report my results.
Thanks for the report
