Continued work on the camp shutdown, am at the stage where everything can be finished with one overnight stay. Am not anxious to shut things down as the fishing has been good and the bucks have not made an appearance in Lafayette since mid September. Am heading home either tomorrow night or early Monday to be present when the dead ash trees are cut down around our house. Future fishing will depend on weather and deer activity.
Left camp at noon today and returned to where my fishing was interrupted yesterday. Yesterday seven fish hooked in one hour, today three fish hooked in two hours. The bugs were going and the fish were rising, they just didn't eat flies with hooks in 'em. There's a lesson there for everyone (myself included, I should know better).
With little bug activity when I arrived at my second stop, I took a long walk upstream. At about 2:30 both the bugs (just pseudos) and the fish got going. Unfortunately I was not invited to the table as my flies were pretty much ignored all afternoon. Probably had half a dozen refuse the fly and caught one of three that ate. Things quieted down about 5:00 with me still a half mile away from the car. Walked down the middle of the stream throwing my #20 pseudo at what fish were still rising. Stopped when I saw a good fish rise about 40 feet away, made a cast which didn't float a foot before it was eaten by what turned out to be a 20 inch male brown. Reeled it in and called it a day.
Congratulations! 20-20 is a big deal, at least for me. I’m more a 16-12 or 14-14 kinda guy.
wish I was out there, April can’t come soon enough.
Fished the Willow yesterday a rainy , drizzly Cloudy day. In other words , “a perfect olive day”. Only thing missing were the bwo’s. Not much happening. A few olives now and then. Managed 10” and 15” browns on a #22olive emerger. Blindcasted with an October caddis to no avail . The rain wss sporadic and not very heavy however by 5:00 the river became a mocha colored mess and it was time to call it a day . Still, it was great to be on the water
I stopped at the troutfitters yesterday and purchased new waders.I fished the BR. No leaks,no bugs,no fish, and no wet feet!!!
I can’t end the season getting skunked!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta love fall fishing! Congrats
