Picked one of the most beautiful November days imaginable to drive down to Lordville and shut down the estate. Bright sun, early morning fog, with flocks of geese on their way out to cut cornfields to feed. Temps varied from 45 to 35 depending on the fog density. The trees are bare, save for a few oaks and larch with color but the hills are basically gray.
I've been busy in Lafayette. Spend an hour or two each morning and evening up in a tree hoping for a buck to come by. So far the only buck I've seen in real life has been what is now a unicorn. A week ago when he walked around not 20 yards in front of me he sported two slightly curved six inch spikes. Last night when he walked right under my other stand he was missing one of his horns.
In addition to the hunting we had loggers come and fell almost 100 dead and dying ash trees that had fallen victim to the Emerald ash borer. While they were at it they also took down a dying maple that leaned over the house and a huge basswood with two trunks both of which were over our power line. If anyone wants free firewood (hard maple, ash or yellow birch) let me know. There are several large trees not 20 feet from our driveway. If you are willing to buck them up and take them, the price is right.
The fishing - Didn't even bring my stuff. There were a few anglers out enjoying the day but there was just too much for me to get done and I didn't want to be tempted. With the weather forecast for continued warm days, it's almost like late September or early October. If I'm fortunate enough to "get my deer" before the weather reverts to normal, you can be sure I'll be back on the river. If the deer play hard to get, I'll have to be content knowing what a great season it was and savor the memory of my last fish of the season.
Thanks again for all who contributed, hopefully we'll all be here when it's time to go round once again.
Well done sir!

Thank you for sharing with us yet another great season! See you next year :)
Well, the season has spun round again, and another year has rolled by. Thanks for the insightful, enjoyable reports. Looking forward to next year.

I’ve enjoyed your blogs. They are well-written and contain useful and relevant information. Taken in total, they offer a guide to the season with what works and what doesn’t as the season progresses. It is very valuable to me because it as a 3 hour drive to get to Hancock from home. That means my trips work best when they can be timed based on present fishing rather than simply flow and weather forecast. Relying on the shops who are almost always optimistic in their reports, I have learned, is not a great strategy.
I really enjoyed your blogs. They’re very insightful and I’ve learned a lot on fishing the WB. Thank you and can’t wait for next year.
I really enjoyed your blogs. I read them every day. Thank you and can’t wait for next year.
Angler119 Thanks for another year of insightful, instructive and entertaining posts . Looking forward to hearing from You again in 2023. Sincerely,Ed Smith
I have settled in to a once a year trip to Deposit for a couple of days. Have had some banner days and caught the skunk too. I love it up there and read all your reports. They keep me connected to a special place. Thanks!
Angler 119,
Thank you for consistent reports mixed with metaphors. You keep the fly fishing fever burning for us all via your insightful postings. HLR
Thanks for another great year of entertaining, informative and well-written fishing reports. Can’t think of a better way to start the day and plan my weekends.
Thanks to one of your recent reports, I decided chase rainbows on the lower Beaverkill, and ended my season with a bang, hooking 10 and landing 6 nice ones. The biggest jumped out of my net before I could tape him, but was larger than the 17-incher I’d just released.
Had so much fun I hardly noticed my waders sprung a leak in the 45-degree water.
Wishing you all the best until next season. Hope you get a nice buck.

A119 thank you for all the advice and answering my questions. I really appreciate you for writing your blog and sharing your knowledge.
I fished last night and landed two 13 in browns. The action was slow till 5. I was on the upper west and bwo was the food of choice. On a personal note since I ve kept a diary of my fly fishing trips this was by far my best year. Thank you.
I hope you have a successful deer season and hope to meet you on the river some day.
Have a safe and joyful rest of the year
Thank you for another year of great reports and great writing generally. I will look forward to reading your reports again starting in Spring 2023! (if not sooner?)

Thanks for another great season of reports! No one else comes close to writing as good a report as you post on almost a daily basis…..it is much appreciated! Looking forward to Spring already!
Was on Lower WB Wed. Started at noon with nothing going on. Sporadic hatch of BWO (?) started around 430PM. One fly landed on me a size 22 with a brown body smokey wings. Used BWO size 22 and had sporadic hits from random rising fish with no connections. Around 5PM started seeing some size 18 flies (unknown kind) . Used a size 18 adams and got a nice hit which immediately broke me off where there was a wind knot in my tippet. Tied on a size 14 Iso in search of the big hungry fish waiting for it and caught a 16 inch Brown around 6PM. Also connected with 12 inch brown in faster water on Iso.Then had to go as fish rising. Moral of the story, come for the last our of the day to fish…
