There ARE No Commercials When You Just Watch Nature.

It may be time to go sit in a tree, but I'm still here at the Lordville Estate. Why? Several reasons. First, I made arrangements a month ago to get new rear brakes, a tire rotation, and an oil change at Craig's. CL Repair in Equinunk. Stopped by Friday so Craig could get the parts for the job and decided I needed to also get new tires. Craig said if his guy has them in stock he will have them on Monday afternoon and  he can do everything Tuesday morning. Second, it seems to take longer to do things than it use to. Planned on doing the final cleaning of the fly-tying room and bedroom today, but things just got in the way and only the fly-tying room got finished. Walked out in the yard and looked at my handy work on the two freestone peach trees and decided to finish the job on the cling. That took an hour and a half and I still need to rake up the branches when the deer finish eating what they want.

If  you'd rather spend time watching analysts on TV talking about the election you can stop reading now. I get my pleasure and enjoyment, (maybe they are the same thing),  watching wildlife. Yesterday I put up one of the brand new blue bird boxes my friend Tom made for me. The old ones were built by     long departed friend Les and are 35 years old. This morning I looked out the window and two bluebirds, whom I haven't seen since their second brood fledged, were checking out the box, seems they've been keeping an eye on things without me knowing. While pruning the cling, the orphaned fawn from last year, (now a buck sporting a 2.5 inch spike and a broken stub came over to eat the peach leaves. He does not spook even when I get off the ladder five feet from him. As soon as I'm in the house at least half a dozen deer come to clean up my mess.

The fishing - Fished a place on the EB that sees very few wade fishermen. However, about half a dozen guides come by every day and all of the fish have been reminded not to eat any floating flies. Got there at 3:30, was back in the car at 5:15, had bugs and rising fish the entire time I was there, used my very best flies, made my very best casts, (there was no wind), and was ignored by all but two fish, both of whom rose and refused a fly that fish willingly ate just two days ago. There were fewer fishermen today and the leaves are at their peak, but if you need to catch fish to have a good time, stay home.

Returned to the fishing camp in time to shoor the bow. Had an audience of seven deer, five of which stood within 30 yards to watch and, despite of what I thought was exceptionally good shooting,  they seemed to be unimpressed.A

I didn’t fish today. I finished up work on tree stands and making false scrapes. I trimmed tree stands and just enjoyed nature. I will be fishing on Wednesday with a good chance of clouds and cooler temps. Hopefully I can catch a fish or two.

Nature and fly fishing have a very therapeutic effect on the human body and soul. Just the feeling of the river pushing against you and observing the surroundings around you cleanses the senses and for a brief moment in time your worries and body aches disappear( kinda with the body aches if you’re careful). At least that is the way for me..and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for every fly fisherman. Tight lines..

Angler119-Sounds like the fishing( or better yet, the catching)) is getting very difficult. But , I’m with you. Enjoy nature, enjoy being outdoors. If you catch a fish , it’s a bonus. Ed
