Big Legal Win for the Smith River

Groups that want to protect the Smith River—Montana’s only permitted float, and one of the most pristine fishing experiences in the Lower 48—from a proposed mining operation just scored a major court victory. Of course, it’s never over until it’s over, and these legal cases can drag on for years. But scoring a win in a district court against a mining company hasn’t exactly been commonplace in extraction industry-friendly Montana so this is a big, big deal.
