GMO Salmon Breeding with Wild Fish

Atlantic salmon and brown trout have been found to mate in the wild. Now, adding to the existing debate over genetically modified salmon, comes research that has found GMO salmon can do the same, “out-competing both the genetically modified salmon and wild salmon, significantly stunting their growth,” states Dr Darek Moreau. While producers of the GMO stock, AquaBounty Technologies Inc., cites research stating these offspring are sterile, this emerging research presents new concerns.
